A Message from Pam Bell '71, '83, SU Alumni Association President
Remember the refrain “You say hello, and I say goodbye” from The Beatles hit of 1967 “Hello, Goodbye.” It kept popping into my head as I prepared to write this newsletter. Read more from Pam Bell's monthly column.
Welcome Liz and Jessi!
Liz Levey ’15 is a recent graduate of Shenandoah University who majored in Mass Communications and Political Science. Levey, a native of Alexandria, Virginia started working in the Office of Alumni Affairs as the Assistant Director for Alumni Affairs, communications, in mid-July. Levey will be handling the creation of the e-News, multiple social media platforms, and writing features about Shenandoah alumni. As an undergrad Levey held multiple positions on campus, her fondest memories were being a Resident Assistant in both Funkhouser-Gore and Parker Hall. In her spare time, she has a passion for all types of sports. You can frequently find her catching up on the daily sports news listening to ESPN Radio while she works or in front of a big screen cheering on her New York Yankees and the New York Rangers.
Jessica Savoie graduated from James Madison University in 2014 with a double major in Media Arts and Design and Religion, as well as a minor in Educational Media. Savoie is excited to begin working for Shenandoah University’s Office of Alumni Affairs in the role of Administrative Assistant. Savoie, even though she has moved around, she calls Winchester home. In her spare time, Jessica likes to make stain glass art. A hobby Jessica learned from her grandfather; Jessica has made numerous pieces, including a large stain glass piece of JMU’s mascot, The Duke Dog. Jessica has been getting her creative juices flowing with ideas of how she can incorporate something SU into a future piece!
Another Successful Summer Music Theatre Season
Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre’s 2015 season featured four audience-pleasing shows from June 11 through August 2. This season’s lineup featured Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical farce, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “The Addams Family,” featuring Charles Addams’ spooky cartoon family, the Tony Award-winning musical “The Wiz” and Meredith Wilson’s “The Music Man”. Shenandoah alumni participated both on the stage and behind-the-scenes. Read More
Burton Receives Ira Lindberg Harris Scholarship
On July 19, Jessie Hooker '10 met with this year's Ira Lindberg Harris Scholarship recipient junior Kamryn Burton. Hooker appeared in this year's Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre (SSMT) rendition of “The Wiz” as Dorothy. Joining Hooker and Burton, were Ira's parents Ronn Harris (’72) and Novella West-Harris (’75) who both attended Shenandoah. “Kamryn is very determined and seems to have a clear picture of her dreams,” stated Hooker, “she embodies what the scholarship is about.” The Ira Lindberg Harris Scholarship Fund was established after his tragic passing in 2012. The scholarship is awarded each year to a worthy musical theatre student at Shenandoah. Hooker helps raise funds for the scholarship. Ira was vibrant student and person that faculty and students embraced and loved wholeheartedly.“This scholarship fund is paramount to all who loved him because it keeps his story alive,” said Hooker.
