Alumnae Mentoring Winchester Youth
John F. Kennedy said, “Children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future.” If that is so, the future is being molded by several very special Shenandoah alumnae. The desire to make a difference in a child’s life is what motivated Lian Connor (AS ’15)Ashley Anderson Mohr (P ’06) and Cheryl Reames (AS ’90, AS ’92) to get involved with Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) of Northwest Virginia. Through their work with BBBS, these alumnae are investing in the future of children in our community.

June Message from Becky Merriner ’01
Dear Alumni, Faculty, Staff and Friends,

On May 20, I had the pleasure of attending the Nursing Alumni Social and unveiling of the Eleanor Wade Custer portrait by Nursing Dean Kathryn M. Ganske, Ellen Custer Morgan and Linda Custer Russell. As a business major, I was in awe as I learned more about Miss Custer and how the School of Nursing came to bear her name. Miss Custer was instrumental in providing both advice and financial support to Shenandoah. She was an amazing woman and her legacy has had a lasting impact through the establishment of the Eleanor Wade Custer Nursing Endowment and the Eleanor Wade Custer Lecture Series. If you have not had the chance to take a tour of the Health & Life Sciences Building, be sure to stop by, take a tour and while you are there, visit the dean’s suite and see Miss Custer’s portrait, which is a reminder of her dedication and support of nursing.

Shenandoah University Commencement 2016

April Message from Becky Merriner ’01

Dear Alumni and Friends,

April weather came in with a tropical feel…April fool!   While the weather was chilly outside, the events for Dayton Alumni Weekend and Conservatory Alumni Reunion were hot inside!  On Friday, April 1, SU Alumni celebrated the history and tradition of the Dayton campus with a memorial service in Dayton followed by a luncheon where Dayton Alumni were inducted into the Hall of Fame as well as reunion classes were recognized.  The day continued with It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere Reception.  Dean Michael Stepniak made a toast to faculty members Thomas Albert, Mac Bozman, Philip Sargent and Robert Shafer on their upcoming retirements.

March Message from Becky Merriner ’01

Dear Alumni and Friends,

March is here and it’s time to spring forward!  Our days will soon be filled with more daylight and warm weather.  I don’t know about you; but, I feel like I have been hibernating all winter and I can’t wait to get out and see what is happening on campus at SU.

Weathering the Storm
On January 22, Winter Storm Jonas started dumping snow on the Shenandoah Valley.  By the time the storm was done,  Shenandoah University had accumulations totaling 30+ inches.   See how fellow alumni spent their snow days!

Save the Date: Conservatory Alumni Reunion

November is the time to be thankful, a time to remember and to embrace those who enrich our lives. I am thankful for so many things, including SU and You!

On November 6, the Alumni Association Board of Directors met to socialize in the beautiful rotunda of the Health & Life Sciences Building on campus. The evening was filled with fun, laughter and smiles.  On Saturday, we got down to business and installed six new board members.

Homecoming 2015 Recap

Even rain couldn’t dampen Shenandoah’s 2015 Homecoming Weekend!

The festivities kicked off with the Pit Party on Friday night.  “The Pit” was a former hot spot for Shenandoah students.  In our modern-day tribute to The Pit, alumni and current students gathered to share stories, eat traditional “Pit” food, including s’mores and Enrico’s pizza, and enjoy live music from the band “Jumptown,” featuring alumnus Paul Shoremount ’75.

SU Alumna Presents at International Convention

Allie Hope King ’13 rekindled an academic love at Shenandoah University, and now she’s drawing international accolades for her work in that field. King co-authored an internationally recognized paper, which was inspired by a Shenandoah introductory course in Conservation Analysis. The paper, “PGC: A Multimodal Floor-Capturing Mechanism in Multi-party Social Interactions” focuses on how people interact with each other in various settings. In June 2015, King presented her paper at the “Revisiting Participation: Language and Bodies in Interaction” convention at the University of Basel in Switzerland.

April 2015 - A Message from Pam Bell '71, '83, SU Alumni Association President
April 8, 2015 - There is so much to celebrate this month. By all indications, the second Conservatory Alumni Reunion was a hit. Despite it beginning on the first day of spring, we got some snow that morning. But, attendees at the “It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere” Mixer forgot all about the cold outdoors upon entering the Ferrari Room, which was decorated in a tropical, Jimmy Buffett style.

March 11, 2015 - For the first time in a long time, I went to work this morning without wearing snow boots. That’s the thing about March. It can be fickle — blizzard one day, 60 degrees the next. How wonderful that spring is on the way.

Meet Your Alumni Board Member: Kate Kenefick '12
